In a recent e-mail, I presented myself with a philosophical problem:

... since I affirm Darwinian evolution, but deny Social Darwinism, how do I discriminate between them?

An acquaintance, DP Martin, sent along this thought a few days later: 

"That is quite a problem.  The solution is to use breeding and genetic engineering to improve the quality of people just as we have improved the quality of corn, cattle and tomatoes.  Why manufacture six sigma quality level cell phones while giving birth to Down Syndrome babies?  By giving couples the ability to choose which of many fertilized eggs to implant, we will be able to increase the quality of human life.  Simultaneously we are moving toward more and more robots to do manual labor.  Eventually all humans should have a college degree and all manual labor jobs should be filled with robots.  At that point there will be less class distinction between humans"
