As every network is reporting, Sen John Kerry has selected Sen John Edwards for the Democratic Vice Presidential nomination. This almost certainly assures Sen Edwards the position. The Democratic convention to be held in Boston later this month will have little to do, other than clap and cheer.

This method of "election" undermines Democratic criticism of the Supreme Court's selection of George W Bush for President in 2000. I guess candidates being chosen by the people, or even convention delegates, is "inoperative." Control of the major parties is now in the hands of the professional politicians, not the rank and file.

While Sen Edwards is certainly a gifted speaker, the policies advocated by Democrats are not changed one iota by his selection. Sen Kerry and his supporters still:

There really isn't much difference between Kerry and Bush on the major issues. But, I suppose people want to smile while "their guy" sticks in the knife.
